People often ask a pharmacist this question:

Can I take medicine after alcohol?

Hi folks,

Thanks for reading this website. I worked for many years as pharmacist and I can tell you people have a lot of questions about alcohol and medications. Some of the common questions are:

"Can I drink with my med?"

"Does alcohol react with my med?"

"My doctor said stop drinking with this prescription. Should I totally stop drinking?"

"I take blood pressure meds. Can I drink a glass of wine? It's my wedding anniversary."

"How about Tylenol and one beer? Can something bad happen?"

Or patients would ask me questions such as:

"Meds stop working if you drink alcohol. Is that right?"

"Alcohol is a downer, Adderall is an upper. They should cancel out. Right?"

"I am going to drink a lot tonight. So I will just skip my med today. Is that okay?"

It is not simple to answer these questions. The answer depends on many things:

1) You. Your age, gender, health, medical history, other meds or supplements you take. Everyone is different. One person might be fine after drinking with meds. You might get a serious reaction.

2) Your drink. What type of drink? How much you drink? The more you drink, the more are chances of serious reaction.

3) Your drinking habits. Do you drink once a month? Or do you drink pretty much every day? Or somewhere in between?

4) How the med reacts with alcohol? What exactly is the reaction? What can happen if you drink alcohol while taking the med?

I started writing material for this website back in 2015. I have had two of my friends die after overdose of meds and alcohol. That just makes me sad. So I had some personal reasons to start this website. This website is my effort to provide information about how meds react with alcohol.

This website has many informational articles e.g., What are the bad effects of alcohol? How alcohol reacts with meds? What are common misconceptions about alcohol use with meds? Information about hangovers etc.

Before using this website, please read the Disclaimer, Terms and Conditions, and Privacy Policy.

Most important:

This website cannot tell what will happen to you if you drink alcohol with your medicines.

This website cannot tell what are your chances of having a reaction if you drink alcohol with your medicines.

This website cannot tell if you can or cannot drink alcohol with your medicines.

Only your doctor can answer these questions

Because only your doctor knows your medical history. Talk to your doctor about alcohol. Tell your doctor about your drinking plans. Your doctor can make recommendations about safe alcohol use.
